The Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, is scheduled to kick in full force beginning January 1.  You may of read of the many problems with the government website people are running into.  The website was poorly constructed and is being worked on to remove all the kinks.   You should note that the problems have been mostly in states that did not set up their own insurance exchanges.   Connecticut did set up it's own insurance exchange and therefore we should not be experiencing the same issues.   For those patients that currently have medicare or medicaid, you should not be affected by the changes and can continue with your current plans.  Uninsured people with relatively low incomes will benefit the most from the Obamacare.   You will be able to purchase insurance with subsidies to make it cheap.  There will likely be more difficulties for those that are not eligible for any subsidies and have to buy their own insurance.   These people may find they are paying more for plans with a higher deductible than they currently have.   One benefit to the new plans for everyone is there is dental coverage and vision coverage for dependents 18 and under.  Also, no one can be denied coverage due to a pre-existing condition.  Children can stay on their parents insurance plan until the age of 26.  Medicaid coverage will be expanded to cover people with higher incomes than the present situation.  Let us hope that the good of the plan out ways the troubles.  Like any large new program, changes will need to be made along the way to correct unintended occurrences.  I would advise all to contact and insurance agent if you need help navigating the waters to find the best plan that fits your personal and family needs.
